As many people in our community are in the process of integrating ayahuasca ceremonies, today we want to bring awareness on Joe Dispenza's teachings on how to change toxic personality structures through metacognition in order to become the creator of your own life.
Integrating ayahuasca
With ayahuasca and the other sacred medicines we serve at our retreats, people unlearn to relearn in order to break the habit of being themselves and reinvent a new happier self.
After years of acting and feeling the same way, integration then entails becoming conscious of your unconscious thoughts, becoming aware of your defaulting habits and behaviours, and to notice when you start feeling different emotions and then catch yourself from going unconscious again.
Understanding metacognition and personality structures
Personality structures correlate to the emotions that you are addicted to. It is not necessarily the substances themselves but the emotions behind them that you often crave.
Metacognition is what neuroscience calls to be able to become conscious of your unconscious self; so conscious that you do not go unconscious in your waking day – and that's how people change.
When your personal reality is creating your personality
The stronger the emotion you feel from some challenge or problem in your life, the more altered you are inside, changing your body's chemistry. The arousal of those chemicals gives the body a rush of energy, and the body likes that. In a way, the body is getting a rush by thought alone, so it becomes addicted to its own thoughts.
Even if you want to change a thought that is causing you pain on a conscious level, on the unconscious you are addicted to it because your body has become dependent on that thought. Moreover, if you see the same people, go to the same places and do the same things, it is very difficult to re-program your thoughts. Your environment is then regulating and controlling the way you think. Your personal reality is creating your personality. And you want it the other way around.
You may say “I am gonna catch myself when that that thought appears again”, “I am not going to do that again”, and it may work for a couple of hours, but it is very easy to fall back into the past patterns because the body has become the mind; the servant has become the master.
You may think that you are making all your choices with your conscious mind but you are not. The body-mind is looking for the familiar feeling to keep itself in the known, to keep itself in the past, the familiar past. The unknown is seen as a dangerous, scary place. The unknown is when the body is stepping outside of its comfort zone, out of its predictability.
Dying to the self
Crossing the river of change from the old self to the new self entails a neurological, a neurochemical, a biological, a hormonal, a genetic death of the old self. This takes an enormous amount of energy, an enormous amount of awareness.
The only way you become conscious is by catching yourself thousands of times for going unconscious so that you never go unconscious again. That is the overcoming process that becoming your new self requires.
Acknowledging the animal within
You gotta sit with that difficult emotion, you gotta sit with that difficult thought. Tell the animal within to stay and to sit with you for a while. When it starts assaulting the brain, keep lowering it, keep taking your attention from that problem by realising that it is not you. Watch the thought and the emotion as if watching a movie by keeping the attitude of a detached observer. Sooner or later the body is no longer going to be the mind, and when it realises it is no longer the mind, there will be a tremendous liberation of energy. Then you will relax into the present moment, in the unknown. And that turns out to be a great place for people to create in.
3D reality
The problem is that we've reached a point in our human life, in the plane of demonstration, the plane of doing, where we've realised that we have to do a lot of things to get what we want.
For instance, you may have a thought that you want a new career, a new car, a new partner, and so on, and your mind then calculates and predicts how long it is going to take for that to happen. So here is one point of consciousness and then the future is the other point of consciousness, and the separation between the two points of consciousness in this three-dimensional (3D) reality is what creates time.
When the event that you wanted finally occurs, the emotion from that event takes away the lack or separation from not having it. That is the prize in 3D reality. But some people spend their whole lives dreaming in lack and never actually realising their goals. So they are waiting for their wealth to occur to feel abundant, they are waiting for the new relationship to feel loved, they are waiting for their healing to feel gratitude and whole. And what do you do when you are matter trying to change matter? You work harder. That's why most humans are constantly rushing, working non-stop, getting more titles, getting more things done…
Matching the outer world with the inner world
At Taozen, we believe that life can be much easier than that. Our goal is for you to actually go into a place where you are a creator, where you can think a clear intention of what your future looks like, and train and teach your body emotionally what that future feels like before it happens.
This goes against a lot of programming because the program says you first need this thing in the outer world before you can feel a certain way, so you become very dependent on the outer world to change the inner world. However, to become a creator is to make the outer world dependent on your inner world. You change the outer world by how you feel first. You feel the emotions of your future before it happens. That is when the serendipities and synchronicities start to show up.
Becoming pure consciousness
The key is to place your attention to the “nothingness”, but this nothingness is not nothing; it is rich in something, you just cannot see it. It is a unifying invisible field organising everything physical and material, holding everything together. It is an intelligence, a universal mind that is aware of everything. It is source of everything physical and transcends all the material. It is the zero point.
By placing the attention on this unknown, this nothingness, you get beyond any separation. You become unified. By placing your attention away from the physical where you feel separate, by laying down your identity, your character, your past and future, you become unified in the present.
The eye of the needle is that when passing into the quantum field, you have to enter as pure consciousness.
Creating from the zero-point field
You become free by lingering in that space in the void, in the vacuum, with no names. You become free by lingering as pure consciousness. In this field of energy, which is the now, the present moment, you get beyond yourself; that is how you reboot your brain.
In this state, you can create a disturbance in the field, and it is this field that creates matter. Hence, if you are creating reality not from matter but from this zero-point field, if you can change the information in the field, you can create whatever you want in the outer world, in the 3D reality. Therefore, you can shorten the distance between the thought of what you want and the experience of having it. The closer you are to this zero-point field, the less separation between two points of consciousness, and the less amount of time it should appear in the 3D reality.
Where attention goes, energy flows
To do that you gotta disinvest all your attention, all your energy off the matter, off the physical, and put all your attention on the nothingness where everything is frequency and vibration. But to get to this point you have to go against thousands and thousands of generations of untold programming in survival.
When you are in survival, all your attention is on your body, your environment and time. To change, it is to be greater than your body, greater than your environment, greater than time. This means that when you are in stress and survival mode, it is not the time to change because it is really hard to close your eyes and go within. In fire-fight mode you are programmed to have the eyes wide-open to run to protect your life in this body.
Unplugging from the 3D
When we plug ourselves in the 3D world, everything is separate. In the 3D, there is a lot of information for the brain to integrate. So the brain beats in beta brain waves; you are more alert. In high beta, you are in arousal and you feel so separate that you believe that you are your body.
In high beta states you become highly focused, even obsessive on external phenomena. You loop. It is a narrow obsessive focus on everything physical and material. When you analyse your problems in that state, it drives the brain further into high beta, making it worse. The brain becomes very disintegrated and that is what stress is.
So how do you slow the brain down? By focusing on nothing physical, nothing material. You bring your awareness into the void, the vacuum.
Sensing the nothingness
The act of sensing nothing causes you to stop analysing and thinking, which slows down the brain waves. The brain begins to go from that voice in the head that is talking to you all the time to seeing pictures, images; the brain starts to imagine. The inner world starts to become more real than the outer world, and you start to think about possibilities and new things. The brain is in a state of creation.
If you keep sensing this zero-point space, and you understand that this space is not nothing, it is frequency and vibration, and you start paying more attention to it and less attention to “yourself”, you get beyond your body, beyond your environment, and beyond time; you become nobody, nothing, nowhere, no time. At this moment you become pure consciousness, and in that space, the different compartments in the brain that were modulated and compartmentalised, all of a sudden, by sensing that invisible field of unifying energy that exists beyond our senses, those different compartments of the brain that were subdivided begin to synchronise. The different parts of the brain start unifying into bigger communities and you start seeing the entire brain in a cascade of rhythm, global alpha coherence, and that is an orderly signal that is sent down the nervous system sending coherent information to the body.
Moving into theta brain waves
You want to sustain alpha brain waves long enough for you to move into theta brain wave states. Theta is the hypnotic state. The whole purpose of meditation is to get beyond the analytical mind because what separates the conscious mind from the subconscious mind is the analytical mind.
5% of your conscious mind is working against 95% of what you've been programmed subconsciously. The only way to change that is by getting into the operating system, which you cannot do in beta waves because in beta you are separate. You have to be in a light rest, where the body starts to almost fall asleep and remain conscious and awake. Then the door between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind is wide open to information. You are suggestable; so whatever you think you'll believe and accept, you'll surrender to without any analysis because the analytical mind is suppressed. The intention, the thought that you implant when you are in theta literally programs the autonomic nervous system.
Getting into the heart centre
In theta is where you can start to relax into the heart. The more you relax into the heart, the more you move out of survival.
The heart is the creative centre. When you are in the heart, the heart tells the brain it is time to create and then the brain starts to move into these beautiful coherent states.
Somehow the heart resets the baseline for the emotional trauma that the body's been living in. It says “the event is over”, “the experience is done”, “the trauma is done”, and all of a sudden, the body can free itself from the past.
Becoming ecstatic
As you keep relaxing into the heart moving into theta, it comes a moment when the nervous system can read information from that unifying zero-point field of energy, and when there is a match or some type of resonance that takes place, the brain goes into the supernatural high gamma brain state. At this stage, the arousal you are having is not fear, it is not anger, it is not pain… It is ecstasy. The cells are being lifted by information, by light. When that occurs, there is an instantaneous biological upgrade that takes place. At this state, it is when all disease ends; it is when miracles happen. The body becomes pro-life.
Die before you die
Learning how to surrender into this process takes practice; it is a continuous process. It is the willingness to die to who you have been. It is the willingness to die before you die.
